What is so unique about this program?
The Integrated B.Tech. - MBA (IBM) program is a five-year program that is offered in a hybrid mode. The program will integrate the curriculum of B.Tech. degree from NIT Jalandhar and MBA degree from IIM Amritsar in 5 years, thereby saving one academic year for the students instead of the normal 6 years - (4 years B.Tech. + 2 years MBA).

How would I attend the classes?
The courses taught in the first year of the MBA program will be covered over semesters 5-8 of the B.Tech. curriculum. These courses will be taught in offline mode. Schedule for these courses will be integrated in the regular B.Tech. schedule of NIT Jalandhar. For the final year of the MBA program the students will shift to the hostels provided by IIM Amritsar and will attend regular offline classes at IIM Amritsar.
Is there any placement assistance given after the completion of the course?
The placement offices at NIT Jalandhar and IIM Amritsar shall provide placement assistance for summer internship as well as for final placements. Students will be required to do a summer internship of 60 days towards the end of terms 8 of their B.Tech. program.
Is the international immersion Module compulsory?
No. It is optional, and an additional cost needs to be paid by the candidate if they are interested.
Do I need to buy books and study material?
All the study material and books needed to facilitate the program will be provided by the institute.
Does the fee include traveling as well?
No. The to and fro travel expenses are to be borne by the candidate.
How is the IBM different from the regular MBA program?
The MBA program is a 2-year fully residential program with classes conducted in the offline mode. Students of the IBM program will cover the first year MBA syllabus during 5th to 8th semesters of their engineering programs. During this period the students will continue to reside in NIT-J. The second year of the MBA syllabus will be covered by the IBM students in the 5th year of the program during which period they will reside in Hostels provided by IIM Amritsar. Faculty teaching both IBM and MBA program are drawn from the same pool of faculty available at IIM Amritsar. The attendance and assessment rigor are similar to the MBA program. The IBM students have to comply with the rules and regulations given in the IBM students’ manual.
What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the IBM program?
All bonafide students of NIT Jalandhar studying in semester 4 are eligible to apply for this program.
Is appearing in IET compulsory to apply for the IBM program?
Yes. However, your selection to the program is not based on this single criterion instead it will entail a comprehensive assessment.
What will be the format of IET?
The IIM Amritsar Admission Test IET will have a similar structure to the CAT exam. The scores obtained in IET will be used as a diagnostic tool to determine the suitability of the aspirant for this program and their potential to succeed in this program. The test would have questions from competencies:
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC),
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and
Quantitative Ability. (QA).
The total duration of the test will be 120 minutes.
When IET will be conducted?
Dates for the IET and other stages of the admission schedule will be announced on the IIM Amritsar website.
Is there any interview in the selection process for the IBM program?
Yes. Based on IET score, and academic track record of the candidate, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a personal interview. The selection process will be based on a comprehensive assessment based on candidate’s previous academic track record and their ability to succeed, readiness for commitment for this program and the overall motivation of the candidates. What documents do I need to be ready with and upload for applying for the program?
How shall I find out about admission confirmation?
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online personal interview. Final selection will be done based on the comprehensive assessment of the candidates. Shortlisted candidates at each stage will be notified via email.
Is there any application fee?
Yes. The application fee is Rs. 2000/- (Rs. 1000/- for candidates belonging to SC/ST category). Application fee is non-refundable.
What is the IBM program fee?
The students admitted to the IBM program shall pay the two-year program fees determined by the Board of Governors of IIM Amritsar, in addition to any fees payable to NIT Jalandhar for the B.Tech. program as follows:
(a) The first-year fees payable to IIM Amritsar shall be payable in four equal instalments from semester 5 to 8 as determined by the Institute while the students are stationed in NIT-J.
(b) The second-year fees shall be payable in three equal instalments as determined by the Institute in the 5th year of the program.
(c) The students shall also be responsible for the payment of any caution deposit, mess deposit, etc., as determined by the respective Institutes.
What is the fee refund policy?
The fee is non-refundable. In case the candidate chooses to leave the course in the middle, he/she will not be asked to pay the fee further. However, no fee that has been paid to date will get refunded in any case.
What kind of certification I will get after completion of the IBM program?
Upon successful completion of the program the candidates will awarded an Integrated Bachelor of Technology and Master of Business Administration Degree jointly by NIT Jalandhar and IIM Amritsar. While the degree will be jointly awarded by the two institutions, the rules, regulations and guidelines for award of B.Tech. and MBA degrees will be independently governed by NIT Jalandhar and IIM Amritsar respectively.
Further, students enrolled in this program will not be allowed to appear for any placement at NIT Jalandhar during 7th semester and will face the placement interviews at IIM Amritsar in the tenth semester. IIM Amritsar will not award any degree or certificate to students unless they successfully complete the 5th year of the program. Usual rules for promotion and award of degree as per the MBA Handbook of IIM Amritsar in force shall apply to the courses offered in various terms by IIM Amritsar.
Do I get the Alumni Status of IIM Amritsar?
After successful completion of the program, all participants will get an IIM Amritsar Alumni status.
What happens if I choose to drop out in the middle of the IBM program?
In case a student who has enrolled in the IBM program chooses to drop out of or is expelled from or fails to qualify for the program requirements set by NIT Jalandhar for whatever reasons, his/her enrolment in the IBM program will stand cancelled. The student will not be eligible for any refund of fees already paid to IIM Amritsar.
In case a student is expelled from or fails to qualify the program requirements set by IIM Amritsar, the student may continue to pursue his/her B.Tech. degree with NIT Jalandhar as per rules and regulations prescribed by NIT Jalandhar. The student will not be eligible for any refund of fees already paid to IIM Amritsar. This option will not be available for students who voluntarily opt out of the program.
Where will I stay during the different stages of the IBM program?
The students will stay in NIT Jalandhar Hostels till the end of 8th semester and thereafter will be moved to the Hostels provided by IIM Amritsar.
