How a student registers himself/herself for a Term?
Term-I Registration: Students who have been offered admission by the Institute will complete the registration process laid down by the Institute:
- Verification of certificates/degree/documents – education, work experience, income, caste and other eligibility, and
- ii)Payment of fees/mess charges other dues for Term I
On successful completion of the above process, they will be registered for the MBA program.
Terms II and III Registration: Registration for Terms II and III will be completed on first day of the term on clearance of dues and payment of the term fees.
Term IV Registration: For Term IV, students will be registered by the MBA office if they have fulfilled the following conditions:
- Successful completion of the first year course requirements
- Successful completion of summer internship
- Preferences for elective courses
- Fees for Term IV.
Terms V and VI Registration: Registration for Terms V and VI will be completed on first day of the term on clearance of dues and payment of the term fees.
How elective courses are opted by students in second year of MBA programme?
Academic areas of Institute offer various elective courses spread out over the fourth, fifth, and sixth terms of the program. Selection and registration for elective courses is finalized in Term III of the first year as per the interests of the students. In addition to elective courses, all students are required to take one compulsory course on International Business of 1 unit during Term IV of the program.
Dropping/changing of elective courses is NOT permitted after the last date for finalizing electives in a term. Exceptions may be made under extraordinary circumstances by the course faculty in consultation with MBA program office.
How and when the Term fees is paid?
It is mandatory for students to register for a Term as per the MBA Calendar communicated by the MBA office. Payment of fees/dues by the due dates stipulated by the MBA office is the responsibility of the student concerned without making any excuses. Students are encouraged to use electronic fund transfer for all payments directly to the specified Institute account.
What grading system is following at the institute?
Each course comprises several graded components. each component is awarded to letter grade which could be A, B, C. Plus (+) and minus (-) extensions to the latter grade indicate varying shades of performance. IIM Amritsar follows a grading scheme of 13 levels ranging from A+ to F.
What is the eligibility criteria for promotion from the first to the second year?
A student will be eligible for promotion from First year to the Second Year of the Program only if she/he meets all the three criteria at the end of the first year:
- Obtains a CGPA of at least 2.0 (i.e. equivalent to C Grade),
- Fulfil the following conditions with respect to grades in first year courses
- Must not have obtained more than TWO "F" grade
- If a student has obtained ONE "F" grade, then he/she should not obtain more than TWO "D" grades.
- If a student has obtained no "F" grade, then he/she should not obtain more than THREE "D" grades.
- Does not have any outstanding financial liabilities with the Institute.
What is the eligibility criteria for Award of MBA degree at the end of the Program?
A student will be eligible for Award of IIM Amritsar MBA degree on completion of the Program only if he/she satisfies the following criteria at the end of the second year:
- Obtains a CGPA of at least 2.0 (i.e. equivalent to C Grade) overall,
- Fulfil the following conditions with respect to grades in first year courses
- Must not have obtained more than ONE "F" grade.
- If a student has obtained ONE "F" grade, then he/she should not obtain more than ONE "D" grades.
- If a student has obtained no "F" grade, then he/she should not obtain more than TWO "D" grades.
- Does not have any outstanding financial liabilities with the Institute.
How meritorious/best students of MBA programme are appreciated?
For every batch, IIM Amritsar will award one Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance and one Gold Medal for Best All Round Performance. In addition to this the top 5% of the class will be recognized for their scholastic achievements.
What are the conditions related to attendance?
Students are required to maintain full (100%) attendance in all courses unless specified otherwise by the Faculty/s concerned. Faculty may choose to relax attendance norms by up to a maximum of 20% with information to the MBA Office before the beginning of the course.
