PGP Admissions Policy and Procedure for the Academic Year 2016 – 2017

IIM Amritsar adopts a two -stage selection process and accordingly the following selection criteria are applied in two different stages for all the eligible candidates ( who appeared for CAT 2015 and applied for admission to IIM Amritsar):

Stage 1 : All candidates meeting the requirements mentioned in Table1 are eligible for consideration to the stage 1 short- listing *. However, the actual number of candidates shortlisted would be the discretion of the institute and would depend on the batch size of 2016 -18.

*The shortlisting is done by IIM Kashipur (common pool for 9 IIMs) and by IIM Amritsar/ Bodh Gaya (additional common pool for 2 IIMs).

Stage 2: The WAT & PI scores will be pooled from IIM Kashipur, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Kozhikode and other older IIMs (so candidates appearing for the Stage 2 process of the above IIMs may not be invited to attend the IIM Amritsar Stage 2 process). The merit list for admission to IIM Amritsar will be prepared based on the criteria given in Table 2.

Work Experience Index Score:

Previous work/professional experience will carry a weight of up to 5% depending on the length and quality of service as on January 31, 2016, as shown in Table 3. Only fulltime managerial work experience after graduation will be considered. Training/Project work/work completed as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.

Diversity Index Score:

To ensure diversity, marks will be awarded for diversity (gender (5%) or academic discipline (5%)) related factors. Academic disciplines eligible for academic diversity score are given in Table 4. A candidate is entitled to diversity score from only one factor.

Reservation Policy

IIM Amritsar will follow the Government of India policy on reservations for scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Non-Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) and DAP (Differentially Abled Persons).

Additional information (the candidates are advised to read them carefully)

  1. Candidates who appear for CAT 2015 and opted for admission to IIM Amritsar only will be eligible for admission to IIM Amritsar.
  2. Each IIM short-lists candidates for GD/WAT and PI based on their own criteria. Hence it is possible to observe variations in the lists of candidates short-listed by different IIMs.
  3. Subsequent to the WAT and PI, the merit list for admissions will be prepared in May 2016. The required number of admission offers (available on the IIM Amritsar website) will be made from the merit list, in the order, following the Government of India reservation policy. Hard copies of the admission offers will be issued only to those candidates who send the completed offer acceptance form together with payment details.
  4. A limited number of candidates will be kept in the wait list. Offers to the candidates in the waiting list will depend upon the number of candidates not accepting the initial offers from the merit list.
  5. All the candidates are advised to check their registered emails regularly and visit the IIM Amritsar’s web site for updates on admission related activities.
  6. If a candidate fails to confirm the admission formalities within the stipulated time period, for whatsoever reasons, the seat will be forfeited by him/her and the next candidate in the waiting list will get the offer. No communication will be entertained in this regard.
  7. IIM Amritsar reserves the right to change, modify or adopt any new admission policy and process to comply with Government/ Judicial requirements or that it deems necessary and which best suits its purpose of identifying and admitting the most appropriate candidates to the post graduate programme.
  8. A candidate receiving the admission offer from IIM Amritsar and accepting the offer within the stipulated date needs to send along with offer acceptance an offer acceptance fees. The candidate will have to register on the registration day for the programme and pay the necessary fees to complete the admission process. A candidate withdrawing from the programme can get the fee refunded after deducting the processing charges as per govt. norms (F. No. 21-I66/2007-TS. II). If the withdrawal is happening after the closure of the admission window where the seat will remain vacant, no refund of the fee will be made.
